In 1984, the only Muslim girls orphanage, now named Chattogram Balika Sadan was situated on a 10 acre hilltop at Flora Pass Road, Ambagan. It was established as a joint effort between social welfare agencies and some private individuals (a number of leading citizens) who felt the need of such an organization for proper rehabilitation of orphan girls through imparting fundamental education and vocational training. The orphanage has received government support over the years but the major sponsor at present is, the A.K. Khan Foundation and also few generous individuals of our society. At present, approximately 200 girls, between the ages of 5 to 18, are accommodated in the orphanage. CBS also employs 30 teachers, 7 administrative staff and 14 support staff.
